MESOPHOTIC CORAL REEF SYSTEMS

Surveying Seychelles' deeper reefs

On the following page, you will find an overview of the different approaches and programs we used on Nekton's 2019 First Descent expedition to Seychelles' Outer Islands, surveying reefs from the surface down to 350m. I will explain how submersible and diver transects compliment one another and what other gear we deployed to study these deeper reefscapes.

REEF MONITORING AROUND BAIE TERNAY

What I've learned working on a Marine Conservation Base

As a volunteer in 2013 and then as a staff member from 2018 to 2019 I surveyed over 24 sites across Northwest Mahe in the Seychelles. On the following page you will see an overview of the survey methodologies we used to study the reefs fish, corals and invertebrates. You will also learn what other projects we implemented like the turtle ID database and the coral restoration nursery.

My name is Nico and I am originally from Germany. I am currently working for the Nekton Deep Ocean Research Institute in Oxford. As you might have guessed, I have a keen interest in our oceans and am doing my best to protect and conserve them.
